Proud to be a Woman

Hello everyone,  This post is going to be a little different from the others.
As you know I'm studying to become a journalist and lately I'm really busy with some essays I have to do for my uni. The subjects that I have chosen for these essays are related with feminism and I'm starting to realise that all those feeling that I have in my everyday life, as social pressure are not unique but every girl in the world has been judged just because she's a girl. First of all I want to suggest you to see two movies: "Frida Kahlo" and "Thelma & Louise" It is wonderful that Hollywood have created some movies that are showing another aspect of women, the aspect that shows them powerful and independent.

I would like to dedicate this post in the movie "Thelma & Louise" and just because I feel really related with all those feeling those girls had. You should know that the film presents two ordinary girls, Thelma which is married with a repressive husband that cheats all the time and doesn't have any respect for his wife, and  Louise that seems more independent as she works as a waitress and has her own house. Those girls in the end will change dramatically because they will realise that the modern society has no place for them.
During the movie you can see many forms of women's oppression and violence, from rape to looks full of criticism.
thelma and louiseReasons you have to see this movie(again and again)
  • you'll feel stronger as a person
  • you'll realise that even a weird gaze it's not ok
  • will teach you the importance of fighting even if you don't have any chances at all
  • Brad Pitt is hotter that ever..
brad pitt
  • And the most important part, you'll learn to support every girl in the world
Also you should note that women's oppression sadly starts from women.
So we should realise that we have the opportunity to change this world and make it fair for everyone.
We should just be united and support each other to make it happen.
That means that the next time you'll see a girl to be judged harshly for no reason, even if you don't know her at all, defend her and don't let anyone to put her down. Just think that next time it might be you in the same place. Be united!  Be strong!  Be proud to be woman!

Recipe: Colorful Yummy Heart Cake!

Hello everyone!
Today I wanted to share you an awesome cake recipe I have found :)
Recently me and Gracie decided to make the cutest cake yet :)
It took a lot of effort but I think it was worth it!
I mean LOOK at it!
We decorated it together, it was so much fun!
So here is the recipe:

For the sponge cake:
4 eggs
1 1/2 cups of sugar
1 1/2 cups of all purpose flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
3 tablespoon cocoa powder (sugar free)
60 gr Milk

For the cream:
2 boxes of whipped cream
1 cup of powdered sugar
1 box of vanilla flavored cream
Food coloring

For the syrup
300 gr water
300 gr sugar
1/2 lemon

+3 boxes of biscuits (like oreo)

Step 1: The sponge cake:
Beat the eggs with the sugar in the mixer until the mixture turns almost white and fluffy. In a bowl mix the flour with the baking powder, the cocoa and the milk.
When the egg & sugar mixture is done add the flour mixture slowly.
Take a round pan (with 25 cm diameter), cover it with greaseproof paper and put the mixture inside.
Preheat the oven and bake the sponge cake at 170 degrees for about 40 minutes.
When it's done, you should remove it from the pan and let it cool down. Then you cover it with plastic wrap and put it in the fridge for an hour. (after that you just cut it in half using a long knife)

Step 2: The syrup
In a little pan, add the water, the sugar and half a lemon (just through it inside) and let it boil for 1-2 min.

Step 3: The cream
Beat the whipped cream in the mixture (given you bought it in liquid form) until it doubles its size. Then, add the sugar. After that, add the milk and the vanilla cream. When the mixture is done put it in the fridge for an hour.

Step 4: Finally making that cake!
Separate the cream in 2 large pieces and leave a little bit outside for the decorations. Color each piece with any color you would like.
Take the first slice of the sponge cake place it on a cute plate and cover it with syrup. Add a nice thick layer of cream and throw lots of cookie crumbs on top. Add the other sponge cake slice, cover with the syrup and cover the whole surface with cream.

You can decorate with cookie crumbs or a huge sprinkle heart like we did or with whatever you like :D
Just have fun!
I really hope that all the steps are comprehensive enough, but if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask me!
Have a wonderful day and sorry for anyone that is on a diet!!
Cutest cake ever or what??

New dress, super happy!

Hello everyone!
Today I just wanted to show off my new dress!
My mother bought it for me from London and it has little penguins (or cute birdies I'm not sure) on it.
And of course I'm pairing it with my awesome polka dot shoes.
I took this pictures right before leaving home to go to a huuuge party downtown!
It was amazing!

(Well ok, the truth is:
Once I was done studying I put on the dress and tried to combine it with stuff .And I did my make up at 7.30 this morning but I was bored to take it off when I got back home. And my feet already hurt wearing these heels. I don't understand why! Yeah I'm such a party animal!)

BUT! The necklace is of course handmade and the day after tomorrow is Friday! Hooray!

So my question is:
Do you wear heels often? How can you stand them?? ANY tips?

Blue Hair

Hello everyone!
I'm excited to present to you my new blue hair!!
blue hair
So you might remember (and of course you do..) that on my last post I was a little bit disappointed with my pink hair and I wanted a change!
The results of the poll on the post really moved me to change my hair color since most of you answered that you would prefer blue hair :)
After I took the decision I started washing my hair during the weekend with Ultrex and also with a dishwashing liquid,I think that it was fairy.
The results were reeeaaaally amazing cause I end up with this shade in my hair.
faded pink hair
As you can see the roots were still pink but the rest of the hair were quite faded.
I washed them 8 times to reach this result and today I dyed them blue!!
bright blue hair
I love the result!!
It is really bright and blue!!

So how do you feel about it?
Do you prefer blue or pink hair?

Saddle shoes DIY

Hello everyone!

Today I will share you this project I did last week. I was looking around the web at random stuff and came across this awesome tutorial on Rookie . And I don't know about you but I was amazed!
I mean DIY saddle shoes from old plain stupid shoes??
It really takes 30min or so and it's hard to mess it up. I'm planning on buying much more cheap shoes to decorate!

So enough talking, here's the tutorial!

Find some old shoes (obv) and start covering the parts you don't want to paint with some masking tape.

Draw the saddle shoe shape at the front with a pencil and carefully trace around it with a X-Acto knife.

Paint! You can add a pattern, paint them two different colors if you wish like me, add stripes for a more nautical theme, paint them the same color of an outfit you can't pair with anything and so on.

AAAaaand you are DONE!

Some inspiration for you guys!

Changing Hair Color

Hello everyone,
As you may know a couple of months ago me and Daphne decided to change our hair color.
Now I'm getting bored of this pink and I'm thinking of changing it.
Here are some photos of me with different shades of pink.
This is me two months ago:
This is me one month ago

So I would appreciate your help!
Should I change my hair color.
I'm thinking of dying my hair blue but I'm not sure?
Do you like the idea?

Yay! I made a new dress!

Well, hello everyone!
Check out my new dress!
Ahh I made it myself which actually means that:
a) I started making it
b) Actually finished it!
It' has a loose fit and I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing really.
Because it is more comfortable but I don't know if it compliments my figure at all.
But I finished a dress while being so extremely busy with school and all these stuff and this makes me absolutely thrilled!
These pics were taken back in the good old days (2 days ago) when I didn't have a stupid swollen lip as I have now (caused by a stupid infection which is actually my fault).
It's like a bad lip augmentation really!

And yeah, I just love how bright my hair looks here and as you might have noticed I decided to "embrace" my naturally curly hair. What do you think??

A Day In Athens

Hello everyone :)
Today was a lovely day in Athens and  I went out for a walk with my boyfriend.
Initially we stopped at my favorite shop to see all the new things that brought for the summer
and I really loved this super cute bag which I might get it really soon :)
Anyway after our small walk I got really hungry and we stopped at the new restaurant which is called Mama Roux.
The food was awesome but my words have no meaning in front of those photos :)
mama roux athens
This salad was bigger but I couldn't resist to eat...
It was called the French Colorful Salad.
mama roux athens
This is what my bf ordered, it is chicken with a great sauce but to be honest I didn't tried it.
This is what I ordered, the all american burger!!!
It was just awesome, the meat pattie was juicy and the breads were soft and tasty. The french fries were crispy and really good fried.
Even the salad had a wonderful sweet sauce.

Take a closer look!

Now that I'm seeing again those photos I regret leaving this place..
I could have stayed there forever and eat forever those delicious fries!

So what is your favorite food?

Meet the wonderful Rachel!

Hello everyone!
We would love to introduce to you Rachel :)
Rachel is the proud owner of Poppy and Fern, a cute etsy shop that has numerous handmade jewelery with an extremely unique style!

Tell us a little bit about yourself.
My name is Rachel and I live in Austin, Texas with my husband, rescue dog, Tootie and cuddly cross-eyed cat, Meeka. I create hand embroidered jewelry and wall hangings for Poppy and Fern. I love cold weather and family traditions, hikes with my husband and our dog, reading in my PJs, watching movies, playing board games with friends, cooking, drinking hot tea and thrifting for treasures. I love an array of different music ranging from Stevie Wonder to Punch Brothers to M83. My husband is a musician, so he has shown me some amazing music over the years. When we were first dating, we would just drive around and listen to music.

Many of your creations portray animals. Tell us more about your pets!
I am an animal lover. Growing up, my parents indulged that love. We had a snake, rabbit, gerbils, a dog and a cat. If it was my choice we would have had more. :) My husband and I adopted our rescue dog Tootie shortly after we got married and our friends gave us our cat Meeka a year later. The two of them did not want to have anything to do with each other in the beginning, but they have become quite fond of each other now. They love to nap in the sunshine together during the day.

What is in store for Poppy and Fern?
I just finished designing wooden engraved frames that I will use to make brooches, it's a very exciting new venture. I also embroidered spring inspired floral pieces that will be making their way into the shop in the next few weeks. I am in Renegade Craft Fair May 19th and 20th here in Austin, so I will be finishing up my booth display and inventory for the show. Two weeks and counting, eep!

How were you inspired to start your business?
I got a job teaching Pre-kindergarten children after getting out of art school. I would teach by day and create necklaces by night with all of these wonderful brass pieces I would find in shops around town. I made what I wanted to wear, and my collection of necklaces grew and grew. I decided to sell them online and then a shop downtown contacted me to sell in their shop. I started thinking of it not just as a fun hobby, but a way to share my passion for creating beautiful things with people. I love that people are wearing my artwork around their necks, it's such a satisfying feeling. I put in my notice two months ago and am so excited to be able to make these beautifully whimsical embroidered pieces for people full time. It's been altogether terrifying and exhilarating to start this business. :)

What are your favorite books?
This is a tough one. I love to read and can get lost for hours in the world of a good book. I love the romantic sensibilities of Jane Austen, the Harry Potter series, and The Graveyard Book.

At what age did your realise your artistic side?
I don't know an exact year, but I loved crafting from a young age. Both my grandmothers were quite creative, so they taught me how to cross stitch, sew, paint, and knit. I cherish that time with them, especially my grandmother, ReRe, who has passed away. She was always so encouraging of my new creative ventures. I got to show her some of my embroidered pieces before she died and I am so thankful that I got to do so.

What's your favourite food?
I love to cook yummy vegetarian cuisine, but my favorite food is pizza. Every Thursday night, we bake up some pizza and sit on the couch to watch our favorite shows.

What are you favourite things in the world?
I am incredibly sentimental, so I love anything that has memories attached to it. My Mom had this beautiful tapestry bag that she used for her and my Dad's wedding. I loved it so much I used it for my going away outfit at our wedding. My grandmother let me have her amazing brass pineapple lamp from my grandparent's house and I display it proudly. It reminds me of being at their home as a kid. I also have a collection of old love letters from Joshua from when we were first dating nine years ago. It's fun to go back and read them.

Everyone just go and check out Rachel's wonderful shop!
We wish her the best and we are looking forward to see even more cute designs!

Meet Cuban!

Hello everyone!
We are happy to introduce you the amazing owner of Grrfeisty blog. Join us as we discuss about life, blogging, her pets, her awesome shop, crafting and style :)

Hello Cuban! Tell us a little bit more about your life
My family immigrated to the states from Cuba in the 70s. My parents worked really hard so my sister and I would have all the basic comforts they didn't growing up. My dad's job had us living between California, Florida, Texas, and Saudi Arabia. Moving so much as a child made my family really close [especially my sister and I] and has me hooked on traveling. Every once in a while I get an itch, and since I work in education and get plenty of vacation time, I am able to scratch quite often. :) My most recent trips have been to Peru and Colorado - with my boyfriend of 7 years.

Why have you decided to start blogging?

I have been blogging on and off since the age of 18. Through Livejournal and Blogger I have made such wonderful friends. Based on similar interests and dorkery. J I also love the challenge of an audience so that I can work on improving my photography skills.
We've seen a lot of posts about your cute dogs. How many dogs do you own?
I live with 3 dogs, and dog-sit for a friend of mine as well. Sam and Osa are lab mixes, and Buster is my original mutt. :) Sam and Buster are a bit older, so lately Osa has been having all the fun - and she really enjoys it. I have taken in a few dogs at work and helped find them homes. Animals are amazing and wherever there is a dog, you will find me :)

Have you always been so crafty? What inspires you?
I remember dabbling in all kinds of arts and crafts growing up. In middle school I made books and greeting cards, in high school I started sewing by hand, and in college I actually sold some items. Afterwards I kept at it and opened up an Etsy shop. :)

What other hobbies do you have?
Currently, my main hobby is playing for Houston Roller Derby. :) I've been with them for over a year now, and it's definitely been a lifestyle change. I am also in love with traveling, as I mentioned already. And inbetween work, trips, and derby, young adult fiction keeps me quite entertained.

How would you describe your style?
My style is pretty down to Earth. I dress for comfort, and any "style" I have acquired has come from picking out my teacher wardrobe. :) I am trying to get into the vintage movement, but it's a little difficult dressing a 5' figure. My favorite articles of clothing are dresses and skirts. But I think my trademark has become my large hair. ;)

If any part of my life interests you, please stop by my little e-home. :) There you will find loads of photographs, [literal] puppy love, roller derby, recipes, outfits, DIYs, and a lot more randomness.

A Day In The Forest

The weather is really awesome lately
so me and Daphne decided to go for a walk in the forest.
We thought that it's a great idea now that we both have pink hair to take some photos.
It's really convenient to go to the forest because we live in a suburb of Athens full of trees.
There are times when I see these photos that I wish I had a house away from the big cities, close to the nature.
The trees with their large foliage, the little birds singing and the butterflies flying around makes you feel more serene.
We must remember that enjoying every moment is the goal of life.
We should try each day to make ourselves happy and ignore things and people that makes us feel bad.
It's a shame that we spend all our time full of the anxiety and stress.
We should start to feel the love around us
by loving ourselves first.
Let the others know who you are and they will surely love you.
Every person is so special and unique like a snowflake, spend one moment to admire this beauty!
One last thing I have to say is about friendship.
I never knew what a true friend was about before meeting Daphne.
This post is dedicated to all the awesome moment we had together and to our bright future.
